Muambong Catholic Church Project

The Muambong Christian community is growing fast, to a point where it has outgrown the church built in the early seventies. When I observed this in 2007, I decided to initiate the building of a more modern and adequate house of worship (see Project doc.). The little effort I made, with the help of community labour (molded blocks, sand and gravel visible on project site), was so highly appreciated by the Bishop of Buea Diocese that he immediately submitted the project to Rome for approval. With Rome?s approval, he recently contributed 12,000,000 CFA francs to the project (see his attestation).
Thanks to the dynamism and devotion of the Baseng Parish Priest who is the Diocesan Focal Point and Manager of the Project, construction effectively started in May (see pics of 15/6/10)). However, the Diocese?s contribution is expected to finance the building only up to wall plate level; and construction should get to that level by mid-July. According to the Bishop, the Muambong community has to raise the rest of the funds. Knowing how poor our communities back home are, you can imagine on whose shoulders the responsibility lies.
I am therefore appealing to you personally as a son of Muambong to join me and the others in building God?s house. I know how committed you are elsewhere; but I also know how strong your faith in God is. So, anything you can do, anything you contribute, will be heartily appreciated, even though you are not doing it for me, but for God, our Creator, who will surely reward you abundantly.
To facilitate contributions to the project, the Bishop has made available within the Diocesan bank account in BICEC, Kumba (for proximity sake), the Project account whose details are as follows:
MUAMBONG CHURCH PROJECT,
Account N?: 10445250001,
Banque Internationale du Cameroun pour l?Epargne et le Cr?dit (BICEC), Kumba,
Code BIC : ICLRCMCXXXX,
IBAN : CM2110001068501044525000143.
If you decide to pay into this account, please copy mekolle@un.org, jimmyngoe2010@yahoo.com, and michael@chede.org, after payment, for record purposes. You can also send your contributions through me, if you trust me enough. Whichever manner of payment you choose, receipt of your contributions will be acknowledged either by the Bishop of Buea Diocese, Project Patron, or by the Baseng Parish Priest who is the Diocesan Focal Point and Manager of the Project.

For any further information, please contact the Project Manager, Rev. Fr Hillary Ngome, Baseng Parish Priest (frizzyhils@justice.com, Tel. +(237)77720034 / +(237)22176577) or the Bishop of Buea Diocese (dioceseofbuea@yahoo.com, Tel. +(237)3322241, Fax: +(237)3322671).
Stay blessed.
Sincerely yours,

James Mekolle.church project

Wecome to Muambong

Muambong is exclusively a farming community comprising about 1000 households and over 5000 inhabitants, with a current per capita income of around US$ 170. It is located in Kupe-Muangenguba Division in the South West Province of Cameroon. Its economy, like that of adjoining areas, depends precariously on coffee farming for 70% of household incomes as well as on subsistence agriculture. The community is linked by rough roads to other agglomerations of the Kupe-Muanenguba Division. Muambong is situated along the Cameroon chain of mountains between Mt Kupe to the south and Mt Muanenguba to the north. One major highland in Muambong, ?Ahii de Nkang? measures a height of approximately 300m. Faults scarps can be seen along water courses e.g ?Tennerre?.
